WHAT'S HAPPENING  The Myers Park girls' Varsity lacrosse team entered the state playoffs seeded fourth in the state. In the first round of the state tournament, the Lady Mustangs beat Providence High School 15-9. Moving into the second round Myers Park took on fifth seeded Green Hope but was unable to overcome a strong offensive play by Green Hope 12-18. The Lady Mustangs end their season 13-4 with their highest end of season ranking and state tournament seeding ever! Post season honors for the Lady Mustangs are beginning to roll in: *Invitation to play in the NC All Stars Game: Ashley Zwier *NC Western Conference All-Conference Team: Carly Elliot, Ashley Zwier, Katie Zwier, Mary Ellen Goode, Cate Auerbach, Mallie Salerno and Abigail Harris. *Invitation to play in Charlotte Lacrosse Boosters All-Star Game: Emily Caldwell LADY MUSTANG LACROSSE GAME TONIGHT Please come and support the # 4 ranked Lady Mustang Lacrosse Team as they begin State Play Offs against Providence HS! The MP Varsity Lady Mustangs were featured on WSOC TV this week! http://www.wsoctv.com/video/16096203/index.html This week the Varsity Lady Mustangs beat North Meck 14-5 on Wednesday securing the top spot in the NC Western Conference. On Friday, they secured a win over a strong first year Marvin Ridge team 11-9. Senior Carly Elliot lead the girls with 5 goals. Junior Cate Auerbach continues her strong play. MP retains their # 5 ranking and closes in on the #4 spot. Come see the Lady Mustangs close out their regular season at home against # 3 Charlotte Catholic Monday. JV at 5. Varsity at 7. First round of state playoffs for the Mustangs should begin Friday night May 2nd at home. The Varsity Lady Mustangs came back strong from Spring Break with 3 wins this past week. The girls posted solid wins over Charlotte Country Day, Weddington and Watauga. Strong play from senior Ashley Zwier and junior Cate Auerbach ensured the wins. The Lady Mustangs rise to # 5 in the state rankings.This week: Wed April 23rd@ North Meck JV 5 pm and Varsity 6:30 pm Fri April 25th @ home v. Marvin Ridge JV 5 pm and Varsity 6:30 pm Mon April 28th @ #2 Charlotte Catholic JV 5 pm and Varsity 6:30 pm The varsity Lady Mustangs had a strong win over North Meck 14-5. The second game of the week against Charlotte Catholic was rained out and rescheduled for Mon April 28th. The Lady Mustangs maintain their # 6 state ranking.
The Lady Mustangs had only one game this week against Durham Academy. The Lady Mustangs are now ranked #6 in the State. The Varsity girls played a strong game in driving rain and came out with a great win 8-6.This week: Tuesday April 1: vs. North Meck @ home JV 5p.m. Varsity 7p.m. Thursday April 3rd: vs. Charlotte Catholic @ home JV 5p.m. Varsity 7p.m. The Myers Park Lady Mustangs had strong wins over Lake Norman (18-8) and Hopewell (13-5) with 7 different Mustangs scoring in each game. The varsity ends the week ranked #8 in the state. The Varsity squad travels to Durham on Saturday to play #6 Durham AcademyMarch 10-14, 2008The Lady Mustangs lost an away game to 4th ranked Charlotte Catholic. 9-17. Katie Zwier and Abigail Harris led the scoring for the Mustangs. The team rebounded later in the week against the greatly improved Providence HS Panthers winning 12-11. JV won against Charlotte Country Day’s varsity team. On Wednesday the Varsity Lady Mustangs opened their regular season with a win over Charlotte Latin 11-1. JV also won. Saturday afternoon, the Varsity matched up against Green Hope High School (Wake County). Green Hope ended the 2007 season ranked 3rd in the state and this season return 12 seniors including UNC recruit Lauren Cosentino. At halftime the game was tied 3-3. However, in the second half Myers Park came up one goal short for a final score of 7-8. Annie Barkley and Abigail Harris led the scoring for the Lady Mustangs. This week’s games: Tuesday JV@ Country Day 4:30 Wednesday Varsity @ Providence Day 7p.m. Friday Women and Men’s Varsity Double Header The Myers Park Lady Lacrosse Team is coming back in 2008 stronger than ever. With a ranking of 6th overall in the state last year, the girls are returning most of their starting squad. In addition, several new players have been added to the roster filling key rolls for the team. Expect junior Katie Zweier and freshman Abigail Harris to stand out as this area’s dominant midfield lacrosse players. Senior Tri-captain Ashley Zwier is expected to anchor a lock down Myers Park defense. Without a doubt, Myers Park will present a threat to all of its competition in the 2008 season. The team has set the attainable goal of making it to the state final 4 tournament in mid May. On Saturday, the Varsity and JV squads participated in the Lake Norman Play Day. Both squads played 5 games against teams from across the state. The varsity went 5-0 handily beating Northwest Guilford, Weddington, Providence Day, North Meck and South Meck. Strong play from junior Mary Ellen Goode and freshman Abigail Harris gave the Lady Mustangs comfortable leads in each game.
