MYERS PARK HIGH SCHOOL

TOUCHDOWN CLUB

WELCOME

Volume No. 1 May, 2007

Welcome to Myers Park High School Football. We hope the

following will provide answers for your questions.

Sports Physicals

June 3, after school, $25 CASH ONLY. Physicals are not required for

summer conditioning; they are required by July 30 to participate in

pre-season scrimmages.

Summer Conditioning

June 16-July 31 • Mondays-Friday, 7:30-11AM

(No conditioning June 30-July 5 or July 23-24.

Check Calendar for varying ending times.)

Summer conditioning focuses on building a player’s strength, speed

and agility and teaching offense and defense.

This is an athlete’s chance to get to know the coaches and other

players and to get a sense of what MP football is all about.

Participating in summer conditioning sends the message to the

coaches that a student is serious about playing football at Myers Park.

Is it mandatory? No. Is it recommended? Yes. Is it for everyone?

Yes, it’s for incoming ninth graders up through returning seniors.

Meet at the gym. Wear gym shorts, t-shirt, gym shoes. At some point

you’ll want to bring cleats. Bring a water bottle.

If you have summer conflicts due to vacation, driver’s ed, band

competition, etc. it’s up to you to make changes if you choose to or let

the coaches know what days you’ll be away.

Football Family Pot-Luck Picnic

Aug.2, • 12pm • Stadium • RSVP by July 26

ALL players and their parents/guardians are expected to attend. All

forms will be distributed, completed and returned that afternoon.

Remember to bring your calendar and checkbook. Parents will hear

from coaches about the program, complete required forms, sign up to

work the concession stand (every family is expected to work at least

one game) and volunteer for other necessary jobs. Our goal is to

organize for the season in a one- time blitz.

Every family is asked to bring a dish – enough to serve the number

attending in their family plus 4 more. Players with last names starting

with A-H bring a meat or main dish, I-P bring a vegetable, fruit or

grain side dish, Q-Z bring a dessert. Drinks and paper products will be

provided. RSVP to Jennie Davis, 704-367-2517, Jadplus6@aol.com

Pre-Season Practice

CMS has established the first official day of football practice for all high

schools – August 1. At that time, pre-season practice is mandatory.

Coaches allow three unexcused absences before removing a player

from the roster. To be allowed to scrimmage after Aug.1 players

must: 1) turn in a current medical release form, and 2) attend nine

days of pre-season practice.

Making the Team

The coaches don’t cut anyone. They choose players for each game

based on the skill and commitment they see in players.

Game Days

On game days, players are expected to wear a tie to school. Players

stay at school after classes are over to prepare for their game. JV

games are on Thursdays, 7 pm. Varsity games are on Fridays, 7 pm.

(See the Game schedule.)

Players eat a pre-game meal as a team around 3 pm.

Parents/guardians are expected to contribute to cover the cost of

these ten meals. The estimated cost is $65 per JV player and $85 per

Varsity player. We ask parents/guardians who are able and willing to

contribute to feed a player in addition to their own. In this way we

cover the expense of any player unable to pay.

JV players eat a light, pre-game meal in the stadium. JV parents

volunteer to pick up, serve and clean up this meal according to a preplanned

menu. Varsity players eat their pre-game meal in the

cafeteria.

For away games, players travel together to and from games by bus.

Parents/guardians meet the returning buses at the MP gym parking

lot.
